Yello again. I have just got my netty to work after rather sadly having withdrawal symptoms after 2 days of no connection! I did a post last night before I was connected:

Oh my god.

Well today has been truly bizarre and yet has somehow seemed completely normal! I write this sat in my new uni room slighty worse for wear (so the spelling is probably very dodgy).I arrived here today after visiting HH again for some reminiscing - it was HH's 30th birthday celebrations so I got to see lods of pictures of my old teacgers 15 years ago with longer, darker hair and some seriously dodgy facial hair. After I had returned home and packed my things, I set off for my new life in Sheffield. Crikey it was an odd day!

To begin with my arrival was delayed by nothing less than a marching band - more specifically an Orange March. Since when were there ORange marches outside of Ireland? How random. After taking all my stuff to my room and my Dad saying "Whatever happens you can always come home" - a rather ominous departure, I looked around my room and began to unpack. It was only a moment before a friendly face popped around the door to say hello, and then another! They clearly werent lying when they said that the people are very friendly...
It was only a few minutes more before one of my newfound aquaintances had given me a glass of wine and invited me to the "Poptarts" night that was the big event of the night. I happily agreed, being glad that I had such a good oppertunity to meet and greet people who, all things considered, seemed to be just as bervous as me.I gradually met more and more people as they moved in until I had met veryone that had so far arrived in my all girl corridor. It turned out that everybody was happy to come along so we all got tickets.

It wasnt long before it was time to sample the quisine which although rather unusual (breaded salmon fingers?) was really rather nice. I met a few more new and friendly faces that joined our brigade too. After some more unpacking and some talking to my neighbour across the hall Jenna, it was time to go.There was about 12 of us in the end and we all went down to the SU bar at 8 as instructed so that we could be shown to the SU club down the road somewhere at 10.15We mingled some more and talked until it was time to go. We walked down a substatial hill and several incomprehensible side roads being shown by a slightly drunk and extremely camp SU rep.

We entered the Pop Tarts dance hall, opting for the 80s and 90s room. It was pretty crazy even wihlst temporarily empty: disco lights and a massive disco ball filled the room that was pumping Cheese classics. For some reason when I went to the bar I ordered a pint of Coors. I dont even like lager but hey it was a new experience! With my pint of something or other that actually didnt taste bad, I sat with the troupe. After a few minutes one of us got up prompting the others to follow suit. Rather oddly I began to dance. Badly of course but as most of the dancing was shocking to the point of me openly laughing, I didnt feel particularly self concious. As the pint glass got emptier and emptier I began to dance more and the floor began to move more until suddenly I was one of the ones most going for it put of us motley crew! I boogied away rubbishly having a right old time.Doing big fish little fish cardboard box with a pint in my hand to such pure cheeeeze classics as "Shoop shoop song", "Like a vigin", "Loveshack" and "Ghostbusters" was a new and rather pleasurable experience.

After we had our fill I topped it off with a greasy burger from a van (which was actually incredibly nice)! As I summed up to Charlie on the way home:
"Why doesn't this feel strange? I have drank lager which I dont like. Danced when I dont. And become slightly drunk which I never - all with a bunch of people I didnt know 5 hours ago. In Sheffield."To be honest things are looking good :)

I did have plenty of fun but I think I will give tonight a miss, instead spending my night with Fluffy and the Team Dragons caln on Unreal Tournament :)

I dont feel homesick at all really but then I didnt yesterday when I started shaking. Hmmm. Also, nearly everybody I am getting to know really reminds me of somebody back home. Surely thats a symptom! It is really scary how like the other people they are. How bizarre!

Well I feel fine right noow and am looking forward to well, most things really! The food here is really nice too which is a pleasant surprise. The only thing I have come across so far that is really cruddy student style is a tap in the kitchen, which when turned in spits out a strange yellow watery goo with stringy bits in it.
Very atmospheric! I would kind of be dissapointed if it wasnt really crappy in at least one area!

Well I think I will bimble around the net some more but it would seem that freshers week is gonna be ace :)
