Holy shit that was close!

I have just become a victim of phishing. Bastards.

I have to say it was an extremely convincing e-mail. It was supposedly from paypal saying that they needed to update my details and I had an impending transaction and that if I did not complete the form by the 13th of September my account could be suspended.

Usually I would be more suspicious but I have just changed some of my banking stuff and it made a lot of sense. I have been making plenty of use of paypal recently so thought "ooh er better sort this sharpish". The link at the bottom of the page read as the official paypal link so everything looked good.

I entered my login details on the popup window and beagn happily typing in my address. I noticed that the URL started http://www.sexton.com">www.sexton.com then with a load of blah after it. Hang on, thats not paypal. I stopped what I was doing and looked at the official paypal site from my favourites list. Nothing about updating details there. Hmmmmm. This looked a bit dodgy.

I figured I would test the system. I went back to the popup window and put in my other e-mail adress followed by a password made up of some random letters I typed in. The window opened for me to "verify my details".

Fuck.

This was bad.

Reaaaally bad.

I bolted for my account details so I could change my password on the real paypal site. Done. Phew. But had anybody already done anything with my details? No I was safe. No transactions. And my account details are blocked put in my profile. Phew.

I sent the spoof to paypal and I have sent them an e-mail asking if there could be any way of them abusing my account. I wait with cross fingers...

It is scary how good the phisher fuckers are getting. The graphics were bang on and the URL links looked genuine. The only thing that alerted my was the URL at the top of the page. If I hadnt have noticed and I had sent my details I would have been so fucked over. They would have had all my bank details the leeching bastards.

Its no good I have to just do something....

I have just dowloaded the Ebay toolbar too which alerts me to fake sites.
